Restaurant review: Polly’s Pancake Parlor

โ€”

,

I only have a picture of my cleaned plate because I wolfed down these pancakes before I could even think to photograph them.

I just spent a wonderful few days in Northern New Hampshire with some of my loved ones. Part of that week was visiting Polly’s Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill for the first time, and wow, was it worth the drive.

Polly’s makes their commitment to allergy safety evident before you even walk in the door. On their website, there is an entire webpage about how allergies are accommodated, from gluten to dairy.

In my case, eggs were grouped under the dairy allergy section (I have my thoughts about eggs being grouped under dairy, but that’s another post entirely). It stated their dairy-free batter was made in a separate area and used orange juice and vegetable oil as the binder.

I hadn’t heard of orange juice being used as an egg substitute, but I was excited to try. The pancakes tasted like an orange creamsicle; and with their homemade maple syrup? Delicious.

The service was excellent as well. When I told my server about my allergies he was very knowledgeable and informed me of the other ingredients in the batter. At one point, he even came back to check that my pancake could be cooked on a skillet with butter. I felt very safe and taken care of the whole time. Polly’s also has an open kitchen, so I could more or less watch my pancakes be made BY my server.

If the last whispers of Summer draw you up north, be sure to check out Polly’s, especially if you have allergies. And say hi to Trot Trot for me.
