My bucket list destinations

After a slightly impulsive trip to Europe, I began thinking about where else I want to go before I become too old to travel (which, hopefully, is a long way off). I’m lucky that my mom is a travel agent and that I’ve been able to go to many incredible destinations, including Alaska, Spain and Germany. These are five destinations I’m dreaming about checking off in the next few years of my life.

1. Paris

Of course this is my number one bucket list destination! I have always loved everything Paris-themed, whether it’s Les Mis or Ratatouille or Moulin Rouge. I’ve always dreamed of wearing a striped sweater and jeans walking down the street with a croissant in hand. I know I’m not alone in my yearning for the City of Light, but a visit there would be special to me nonetheless.

2. London

I got the closest I ever have to London during my September trip when we flew in and out of Heathrow airport. Being in England in general was very cool, however briefly we were there. We got to drive through the countryside before sailing out of Southampton. I’ve gone from a kid obsessed with Wallace and Gromit to a young woman watching vlogs of people who live in London, and I’m no less enthralled with British culture.

3. Amsterdam

Amsterdam was supposed to be the first stop on our cruise that took us to Germany and Belgium, but the locks to get ships into the city’s port were blocked by protestors. While I support their cause, it was understandably disappointing. Now, I’ll just have to get there another way! Honestly, I’ve been obsessed with getting to Amsterdam since I read The Fault In Our Stars back in high school (if you know you know). My college also has a study abroad program based in the Netherlands, and seeing classmates’ pictures cemented my desire to go even more. It looks like such a beautiful city (and of course, I want to find and sit on a certain bench).

4. Iceland

I’ve had Iceland on my bucket list for a while chiefly to be able to see the Northern Lights. I was actually starting to plan a trip for this year, since the geomagnetic activity is so high, but life changes came first. Fortunately, and to my shock, I was able to see the aurora pretty clearly in my own backyard when it came down into the upper half of the U.S. last week. So…that’s not actually on my bucket list anymore. But Iceland still seems like a great place to visit.

5. Ireland

Of course, the mother land. I’ve felt a deeper desire to go since my grandfather passed away. Not only is Ireland absolutely gorgeous, but seeing the place you come from is so special. I would want to go with my family and kiss the Blarney stone, see the cliffs of Moher, and maybe even connect with relatives.
